Landlords Enjoy Breakfast!
We could have chosen a better day for our first breakfast event, being the morning after the US election and one which saw a cold, wet and windy day in the UK - but those who attended enjoyed a good breakfast and discussed a wide range of topics from late paying students and whether to sell or keep a particular flat with a lifetime tenancy to the life expectancy of a landlord and how that should be factored into ones overall business plan.
On the latter topic, our own Allan Wadsworth assured us that he planned to live to be 102 and was managing his business plans accordingly - it is fortunate in that case, that capital gains are not due on properties at death of owner, else he would need to rethink his plan!
On a more serious note, it was good to mull over the problem of the day, whatever that may have been for each of us - from investment decisions and plans, to how we each manage late payments. And to do so over a range of delicious breakfasts from the popular bacon butty and 'full english' through to eggs benedict and simple fruit was an added benefit.
Our next event is Wednesday, 11th January 2017 - we urge you to pop it in your diary now and plan to get along. We start at 8.30, the cafe opens early just for us, and we plan to promote the next event more widely - so if we can get as many of our members along as are able to attend, that would really help.
Hope to see you there (elections and weather permitting!)
About the author
Martin began his landlord journey 30 years ago, while working in an international role for a global telecommunications company. Since retiring he has extended his portfolio, which he manages with his wife, but has always focussed on the ‘small student HMO’ sector preferring to offer homes in the community for small groups to the more common ‘pack them in and take the money’ mentality. He has chaired the PDPLA for the past 12 years and has overseen the Associations transition from small local self-help group to a much larger and more professional institution which is recognised and listened to nationally. Alongside his PDPLA role, he also has leadership roles in a number of other local organisations – bringing his unique perspective, driving for change and increased use of technology while respecting the history that brought us here.
