Landlord Does A Good Thing
No, not an April Fool, but a story of a landlord going against all those nasty things you hear about landlords and doing something good that benefits others....
Long term member and treasurer of the PDPLA, Malcolm Drew has organised a charity 'All Stars' football match to be played at Fratton Park on Monday May 5th to raise funds for various prostate cancer charities and to help ex-Pompey goalkeeper Alan Knight who was diagnosed with prostate cancer last October.

A special match is coming to Fratton Park as Pompey Legends will take on an Alan Knight Celebrity XI on Monday, May 5 (2pm kick-off) – raising awareness and vital funds for prostate cancer research and testing.
It comes after club legend Alan Knight sadly revealed back in October that he had been diagnosed with the disease.
Now, Pompey icons and football stars are coming together to support the fight against prostate cancer.
Blues favourites Andy Awford, Alan Biley, Michael Doyle, Svetoslav Todorov and Yakubu are all already confirmed to feature, with more stars to be announced* in the build-up to the game.
Tickets in the North Stand will be on sale to season ticket holders and members from 10am on Tuesday (March 18) before going on general sale from 10am on Wednesday (March 19). Full details can be found below.
There will be an opportunity for those attending the game to take a PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test at the ground, courtesy of the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal. These are free, but as each test costs the charity £25, donations are encouraged. More details about how to sign up will be released nearer the time.
All profits from the match will benefit PCaSO – a local organisation raising money for equipment at QA Hospital – Prostate Cancer UK and the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal. Further details about each of these charities can be found below.
Cannot make it to the game? You can still support the cause by donating to our JustGiving page.
Club ambassador Knight said: "I'd like to thank all the lads who are giving up their time to come back to Fratton Park and take part in the match, as well as everyone involved in arranging it.
"I'm also very grateful to the club for allowing it to be staged at Fratton Park and hopefully there will be plenty of fans in attendance for what is sure to be a great day.
"It came as a massive shock when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and have been overwhelmed by the support I have received – from those treating my illness to all of you for the support you have offered.
"This match provides an opportunity to give something back, both in terms of raising money, but also awareness of this cruel disease."
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. For those aged over 50, are black or have a family history of the disease, the risk is even higher.
So join us at Fratton Park on Monday, May 5 and help support life-saving research and awareness, while standing with Alan and all those who are bravely fighting prostate cancer.
*Please note that the names of all players taking part in the game are subject to change.

Martin began his landlord journey 30 years ago, while working in an international role for a global telecommunications company. Since retiring he has extended his portfolio, which he manages with his wife, but has always focussed on the ‘small student HMO’ sector preferring to offer homes in the community for small groups to the more common ‘pack them in and take the money’ mentality. He has chaired the PDPLA for the past 12 years and has overseen the Associations transition from small local self-help group to a much larger and more professional institution which is recognised and listened to nationally. Alongside his PDPLA role, he also has leadership roles in a number of other local organisations – bringing his unique perspective, driving for change and increased use of technology while respecting the history that brought us here.
