Subsequent to the meeting, committee elected 2 new directors to replace Julian Clokie who sadly passed away earlier this year.   They are Alwin Oliver our Vice Chair and Charlotte Walker who has held a number of roles since joining the committee.

Portsmouth Transport Strategy

We waited for the PRS strategy consultation and what do you know, 3 come along all at once....

Apart from the PRS and the Sea Front Masterplan consultations (see last months news) we now have a transport strategy consultation, covering plans for the next 16 years.

According to PCC, "This strategy will shape the way that people travel in Portsmouth over the next 16 years, and we are keen to hear from residents, businesses, commuters and visitors, so we can tailor the plan to deliver an inclusive, active and sustainable travel network which will create a safer, healthier and more prosperous city.

You will also find a high level diagram with indicative schemes which may be delivered over the life of the strategy as well as the Habitats Regulation Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessments reports.

As part of the consultation there is an online survey which seeks your feedback on our vision, objectives and policies within the Draft Transport Strategy, 2020 - 2036. . The consultation will run for 12 weeks until Monday 21 December 2020. Please feel free to forward this survey.

Neil Hawkins Retires From Chandler Hawkins

Over the years, many of us have had property surveys in the area and many of those will have been undertaken by Neil Hawkins of Chandler Hawkins in Landport Terrace, Southsea. So it is with mixed emotions we learnt that Neil has now retired. We wish him a long and happy retirement but we will miss his skills and experience in the city.

Neil continues as Secretary of the Portsmouth Property Association until its AGM next year.

Highways England

Mid-September - December 2020

Essential repair work to A27 Havant Bypass bridge at Cosham/Drayton.

A 50mph speed restriction on the A27 carriageway is in place over the bridge for up to 10 weeks from 18 September. Works to be carried out:

  • Replacement of bridge joints and waterproofing materials
  • Resurfacing of eastbound and westbound carriageways
  • Replacement of central reservation over the bridge

6 Jan for 21 weeks - Installation of noise barrier M27 Port Solent, Cosham (Highways England). Various road and lane closures.

M27 westbound carriageway at Port Solent from Cosham Link at junction 12 of the M27 to the bridge carrying the M27 over the railway line near Paulsgrove.

The works will include:

  • Overnight closures of M27 between junction 11 and Portsbridge Roundabout
  • Overnight closures of Cosham Link at junction 12 (from A27 Southampton Road junction to the M27)
  • Overnight lane closures on the M27 westbound carriageway
  • Overnight temporary traffic lights along Southampton Road
  • Daytime lane closures with 40mph speed limit on Cosham Link at junction 12
  • Occasional full weekend closures of the Cosham Link at junction 12

Right To Rent Legislative Changes

Right to Rent Scheme Update

Changes have been made to the Right to Rent Scheme, to make it easier for landlords and letting agents to carry out checks and simpler for individuals to prove their right to rent. These changes will come into force on 2 November. The Right to Rent Scheme is currently in force in England only.

The changes enable landlords and letting agents to use a new Home Office online checking service, available from 25 November, on GOV.UK, to undertake right to rent checks. Furthermore, the list of documents a landlord or letting agent can accept as proof of right to rent has been updated to include a short UK birth and adoption certificate and documents issued to non-EEA family members under the EU Settlement Scheme.

The legislation and Code of Practice have been updated in line with guidance published in July 2019 for visitor nationals from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and the USA (known as B5JSSK nationals). Since May 2019, B5JSSK nationals have been able to use their passport and evidence of arrival in the UK within the preceding six months (physical or electronic copy of ticket or boarding pass) to evidence their right to rent.
