Short Term Lets - New Laws
With all the interest in the progress of the Renters Rights bill taking centre stage, it is perhaps easy to overlook the future of short term lets, where legislation is also proposed.
The Proposal
Rachel Maskell MP (Lab, North Yorkshire) has proposed a private members bill, with stated aims from the long title;
A Bill to make provision for the licensing of short-term let accommodation; to make provision about the marketing of short-term let accommodation; to make provision about planning permission in respect of short-term let accommodation; to require the Secretary of State to publish guidance about the management of short-term let accommodation; to make provision about small business rates relief for short-term let accommodation; and for connected purposes.
According to the house of commons website, There are no publications for this Bill yet. This can often happen in an early stage of a Bill, when it has not been fully drafted.
The second reading is on Friday 20th June, so while this is a private members bill, it is making progress and at the very least gives a direction of travel.
We will keep you posted of developments.
