Our annual Christmas party was different from usual for a number of reasons. Firstly, the new venue appeared to be much better appreciated than previous ones and also, we normally distribute left over food to the local homeless, but this year there was no left-over food.
The good news is that we raised considerably more for local charities than normal and at the same time, a good time was had by all.
There was much more Christmas attire on show than in previous years and it was good to see so many members go the extra mile with satin and sequins, glitter and sparkle - and that was just the men!
On the night, thanks to Carl"s Christmas Quiz, raffle and auction we raised £581 and in parallel, our Just Giving page has so far raised £280 (which with Gift Aid, rises to £350), so in total we raised the grand sum of £931. Thank you to everyone who contributed and if you have yet to do so, we would love to get to our target of £1,000, just add your contribution here. Also, thanks to all those who brought in so many wonderful raffle prizes as well as the 'drinks warmer' (see photo below).
We gave £250 in Matalan vouchers to the Society of St James who said that many of their day clients (those that use the centre during the day but sleep rough at night) were desperate for warm socks and underwear and these vouchers would be used to help provide that for them before Christmas.
The rest of the money will allow the Society of St James housing management team to order the starter packs centrally and then distribute them to people as they move into their long-term accommodation. These packs are used to get people setup in their new homes as they come off the street, they contain essential household items, such as saucepans, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, towels and bedding for those moving into the new houses.
So, if you came, we hope you enjoyed yourself. If you did not, you missed a great night - please put it in your diary for next year so as not to miss the next one. If you donated - thank you very much indeed, it ALL went to a good cause. If you have yet to donate, please do so - it all helps.
