Tips When Buying Landlord Insurance
Varying your excess can significantly reduce your premium. (The default PDPLA Excess is £1,000. If you may feel this is too high if you only have one or two properties.)
When comparing providers check you are comparing like for like-
Many companies claiming to offer cheap insurance will do so by limiting cover and increasing excesses.
- Level of excess, (A £1000 excess may save you 10%)
- Accidental damage cover
- Cover for Malicious Damage caused by the tenant or guest. Check any excess.
- Cover for costs of re-housing a tenant
- Loss of rent or cost of alternative accommodation following damage to a property. (Boswell’s usually up to 12 months and up to 30% of buildings cover)
