Hopefully members have received the email outlining our efforts to coordinate the availability of short term accommodation, whether for those self-isolating or recovering, for key workers or the homeless. If you missed it, we reproduce it here.
Although the current demand for self-contained short lets from the usual sources has taken a nosedive, there appears to be an imminent huge demand from a number of places (NHS, key workers, those people self-isolating, those leaving hospital, emergency housing and, following Boris' latest pledge, the homeless).
Can you help? How?
I am compiling a list of local accommodation, houses, flats and rooms that can be used. Please add your empty properties to that list by emailing me.
The short-let community is focussed on this and negotiating with multiple agencies, we are talking to the NHS, Portsmouth Housing, East Hants and are connected in Southampton as well as Portsmouth. By centralising our availability, we have the best chance of being useful and helping to solve some of the problems currently facing us all.
Some landlords wish to donate their properties for the short term to help the effort, some are prepared to let them just to cover costs and others desire full market value. Each property provider has their own criteria and has responded as their business allows.
How can I help you?
Please get in touch by email and I will send you a short questionnaire about your available property and preferences. I will liaise with the coordinators of available short lets and act as point of contact for PDPLA members to best use available space during the crisis. I am available for friendly advice regarding short let legalities and procedures.
Let's pull together and do what we do best, housing those in need.

Martin began his landlord journey 15 years ago, while working in an international role for a global telecommunications company. Since retiring he has extended his portfolio, which he manages with his wife, but has always focussed on the ‘small student HMO’ sector preferring to offer homes in the community for small groups to the more common ‘pack them in and take the money’ mentality. He has chaired the PDPLA for the past 6 years and has overseen the Associations transition from small local self-help group to a much larger and more professional institution which is recognised and listened to nationally. Alongside his PDPLA role, he also has leadership roles in a number of other local organisations – bringing his unique perspective, driving for change and increased use of technology while respecting the history that brought us here.
