At our January members meeting, Alwin led the networking session and the discussion focussed on the PDPLA involvement at the student housing fair at the end of January to be held in the Student Union building. As a result, the PDPLA stand at the fair was manned by seven members - all wearing PDPLA sweatshirts with their names on the front and the tag line 'No Agency Fees' on the back.
The PDPLA stand was by far the largest in the exhibition hall and our 'No Agency Fees' tag must have riled the 4 letting agents in attendance almost as much as it would have amused the private landlords who did not know about the PDPLA initiative and took stands in their own right, at £250 a time. There were also stands for interested support groups such as the Uni's own student housing team.
Alwin did a stupendous job of organising our attendance, from the PDPLA 'No Agency Fees' popup banners to the consistent handouts and enquiry forms that all of the members attending used to market their properties.
Initially footfall was quiet but within the 1st hour things got busy and stayed that way for the next 5 hours!
Mary Mortimer stated, "We all came away with a good number of viewings booked. Let's hope they translate into tenancy agreements".
Chris Ladbrook commented, "On a PDPLA level it was nice to work with friendly like minded people who worked as an organisation first then their own interest second. I have found my first years membership highly valuable and well worth the membership in both time and money.
The student fair was very busy with a lots of interest. I took the event as a platform to learn from and exploit further next year (both PDPLA and for me individually). From the back of it I have rented out two properties so far and a few summer rents secured.
Will be very keen to attend next year with the PDPLA as both value for money and good to expand the name of the organisation of the PDPLA to students who after being a student may stay in the city and look one day for a house from another member."
