The consultation for the Portsmouth local plan is underway and its findings will affect us all – from now until 2035 – so it is worth spending 10-15 minutes looking at what is proposed and sharing your views.
This year, PCC are using technology, just go to portsmouthlocalplan.virtual-engage.com/
Once there, you will be in a virtual room with a series of boards – the 1st is Housing. If you click on any of the boards you will have 2 options, you can either read/browse the proposed plan in that area or you can add your comments and answer questions in a simple survey.
In the "Housing" section – the policy talks about 17,701 new homes in the city throughout the plan period, it talks about the need for more student accommodation, build to rent solutions, housing for an additional 2,545 single person households, 47% affordable housing the 1st 25% of which need to be delivered 30% below their full market value. It also talks of minimising the potential negative impacts of HMO development (council speak for saying no to HMO's?)
Other sections, if you have time, include economic development, community and infrastructure, the environment and sustainable design. It is a shame that they are not as interdependent as they should be – but that is the way of government, break it into separate pieces and manage accordingly.
It is difficult for the PDPLA to take a position – as we have members who disapprove of certain developments and others who own and create them, so your individual response is important. However, if you do see aspects which you believe the PDPLA should be commenting upon, do please let us know.
