NOAH 'Securing the Right to Rent with Pets' Survey

 Following on from the 'Heads For Tails' briefing paper we shared last August (see it here), members are asked to complete a short survey. Read more for full details.

I am contacting your organisation on behalf of NOAH, the National Office of Animal Health, to share with you an important update regarding our campaign 'Securing the Right to Rent with Pets', which launched back in April 2021. I contacted your organisation in November 2021 about an online survey we created as part of this campaign that invited those with insight into being a tenant with pets to take part and share their testimonials of this experience. Following the feedback we received around this, we have created a second online survey that specifically focuses on collecting the testimonials of landlords who have experience of renting to tenants with pets. The addition of the second survey allows to understand a holistic range of attitudes and opinions about pets in the rental sector from all of the affected parties. Whilst our campaign has sought to highlight the extensive benefits of pet ownership and we are keen to find solutions to the current shortage of rental properties advertised as pet-friendly, we understand that renting with pets is a difficult topic as it affects people in different ways. It is for this reason that we have made efforts to ensure we hear from everyone who is affected by pets in rental properties as part of this campaign and to ensure that any policies we advocate for are fair for everyone. Given your role as a landlord group and your access to an expansive network of landlords, we hoped to request your help in sharing this survey as we are very interested in hearing what members of your group have to say as our campaign develops. We would be extremely grateful if you would please be able to share this survey with your networks via social media channels or within your own group communications, so that we can develop a deeper understanding of this topic. Martin began his landlord journey 18 years ago, while working in an international role for a global telecommunications company. Since retiring he has extended his portfolio, which he manages with his wife, but has always focussed on the ‘small student HMO’ sector preferring to offer homes in the community for small groups to the more common ‘pack them in and take the money’ mentality. He has chaired the PDPLA for the past 9 years and has overseen the Associations transition from small local self-help group to a much larger and more professional institution which is recognised and listened to nationally.
