New PDPLA Secretary / Contacting the PDPLA

New PDPLA Secretary / Contacting the PDPLA

We would like to announce the appointment of Pauline Wilson, our new Association Secretary. Pauline will attend meetings and manage the administration of our activities and can be contacted via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Pauline has many years of experience in the letting industry and we hope she will help us become a more professional organisation - however, she is part time so don"t expect instant responses or support. Please say hello and introduce yourself at future meetings and join us in welcoming her to the PDPLA.

Several members have mentioned that they find it difficult to work out how to contact the PDPLA, so with that in mind, a simple summary of the 4 ways to contact the PDPLA by email follows:

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is shared by several people and receives general requests for advice or support. Requests from the general public come to this ID also.

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. This will be managed by Pauline and is an appropriate ID for members asking about PDPLA events, speakers, activities, etc

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. This is managed by Chris, our membership secretary and should be used for any questions about membership, access to the website or membership benefits

In addition to these 3 ID"s there is another which you may contact or receive email from and there is an important distinction that all members need to understand.

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is the means by which we allow members to ask questions of other members, so if you have a specific problem and want to know how other members have handled the same situation, then send your question to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and it will be shared with all those members who have not opted out of the service and they will be free to respond directly to you.

So this is the important piece - the 1st three ID"s above are for PDPLA communications and an email from one of them will be the PDPLA"s position or advice on a particular topic, whereas an email from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. will be from one member to other members and does not therefore represent the PDPLA"s position, just that of the member who asked or responded.

Let me give you an example: If the PDPLA decided to issue a list of bad tenants, so that members could avoid those tenants other members had had problems with, we would probably send this from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. (We would not do this as we would risk Data Protection issues and would have to allow people on the list to remove themselves). However, if a member had an issue with a tenant, he could send a question to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. saying, "If any member is aware of the whereabouts of, or is approached for accommodation by, xyz, please contact landlord abc, who wishes to contact them in relation to a former tenancy in the first instance, or with a view to obtaining a reference prior to offering a tenancy" then this would not be a PDPLA communication, it would be member to member, and whilst it could achieve the same effect as a list of bad tenants, it avoids the data protection issues we would face if we maintained one.

If any of this is unclear, do send your query to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will endeavour to clarify...
