Landlords Christmas Meeting

xmas_party

We had a smaller turnout than usual at our Christmas celebration this year but a good night was had by all who attended. It was billed as 'quiz-less' (which obviously meant 'less quiz than usual' rather than 'no quiz') and this years mini-quiz certainly revealed what landlords are interested in. Plus we had awards and fund raising which this year, was for Helping Hands.

Christmas Attire & Quiz

Next time you inspect one of your houses around Christmas time, do what Deborah does and arrive dressed in your Christmas 'Elf and Safety' outfit. I did not think she should win, as others had obviously gone to a lot of effort whereas she had just turned up in her work clothes – but the voting was clear.

And from the quiz, we now know that landlords are very good at identifying exotic locations, they all know what a Pentland Javelin is which is odd as the average man/woman on the street has no idea whereas the typical landlord could not name a Mr Men character if their life depended upon it. Draw your own conclusions and send your answers on a postcard (preferably an electronic one) to us at pdpla.com.

Awards for former Committee Members

We gave out 3 awards on the night – two for retiring committee members. The first went to Charlotte Walker who over the past 6 years has written 69 blog articles for us and represented us on everything to do with serviced accommodation and so much else. The other was for Tony Athill who was our national interface for so many years, who instigated our relationship first with the BPF and then with the RLA and must have spent months of his life (if not years) wading through landlord related legal cases, attending tribunals and guiding us on everything HMO related and much else.

You are both missed already but hopefully, you will enjoy your increased free time, Charlotte with one of many cups of coffee at our expense and Tony using your PDPLA hori hori(a Japanese gardening tool for those who are interested).

Lifetime Achievement Award

The final award was tagged as a lifetime achievement award though it could have been called so many other things and went to Malcom Drew, our company secretary and treasurer for the whole of this millennium and, rumour has it, much of the previous one too… However, Malcolm continues in his role and to ensure that he is able to do so, we bought him some replacement organs and a Rolex (OK – we are landlords and have our reputation to consider – so we had a special Rolex flown in from Hong Kong). We will also be having a celebratory lunch in the New Year and will report further on that in the future.

Fund Raising

And thanks to all who participated in the fund raising – we have donated £250 to Helping Hands who are local group of dedicated, passionate individuals who volunteer help and support to Portsmouth's homeless and vulnerable community. They regularly go out and give hot food and drink and anything else that is needed.

If you missed the chance to donate, please go to their Facebook page and do so directly.
