December is often a busy month for landlords – all the normal stuff crammed into 2 weeks plus all the social commitments and then the scheduling of renovations while tenants are away over Christmas or repairs as needed when they are not. Against this backdrop, we do hope you all find some time to unwind and recharge at some point over the period – to start with, do please come along to our Christmas meeting on the 12th. You just need to click the link in your invite (or let us know if you did not receive one!).
Licensing in its various forms seems to be front and centre this month, see the developments in Brighton below plus locally we have had a number of members who have been told to reduce the number of bedrooms in their property when they applied for the new Mandatory Licenses – if you are in this situation too, please make sure to let us know.
We often talk about the need to represent ourselves better and to ensure that others understand our position – as a group we are as diverse as any other in the area and we are not all rich, money-grabbing millionaires as many in the media and certain political groups believe. This month we have a couple of opportunities for you to get involved – see the B&Q item and do let us know which side of the debate you are on and also, the petition asking for better support for Universal Credit.
And finally, something completely different, a landlord whose American house was burnt down by a tenants partner… Not very Christmassy but some interesting observations about the differences between a landlords lot here and there.
Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year
