Crazy Summer

Crazy Summer

Crazy summer days are upon us. Cleaners go on holiday, victorious festival prompts a tough pre-stay email (you WILL be charged £100 for smoking in the rooms, you MAY NOT continue the party here etc.), and the changes of September are nearly upon us.

I squeezed in a couple of networking meet-ups (new business, talking to landlords to expand the portfolio) and a day in Birmingham at the 'Serviced Lets community day' with experts Jason Living and Lee Pemberton. Like most property strategies there are a host of overpriced gurus out there, but these guys are very down to earth, reasonably priced and have many years experience as well as being very entertaining.

This prompted a sheaf of notes detailing revenue management techniques and some insider secrets on how to get bookings off booking.com (the biggest bill, 15% of turnover). Hint: if you are booking a room, phone the provider to make a direct booking, they will usually give a decent discount to avoid booking fees.

A long to-do list followed, Summer is kind in this business but Winter requires a change of tack from service provider to marketeer.

Our own networking group, Southsea SA (join us on Facebook) are getting together on the 4th Monday of each month, meeting at various members' SA places to share ideas, bookings and support.

Best wishes to you all as you welcome in students and workers for September.
See you at PDPLA! Cheers!
