New 'Right To Rent' Guide

As we are sure you have seen in the RLA news, there is a new government Right To Rent  guide which you MUST give to all tenants when they sign a tenancy, whether new or updated. Find it here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-rent

Facebook Fined For Data Security Breach

For those who attended our GDPR session in May, it may be of interest to know that the £500,000 fine issued to Facebook in allowing Cambridge Analytica to harvest user data and use it inappropriately was the maximum the Information Commissioner was allowed to impose. Had the GDPR rules been in place, the fine could have been £1.2Bn

Section 24 Billboard Campaign Update

We have heard from member, David Heard, that, "We have now moved North with Billboards going up in areas such as Leeds and Manchester and as soon as the boards are in situ I will email photos. Thank you for your support"

Universal Credit Briefings

PCC have informed us of briefings for those who may be affected by UC when it arrives here in September. Details from their email below:

Ahead of this the DWP is providing free briefings for anyone working or volunteering in the city delivered by the local Jobcentre partnership managers, supported by the council's tackling poverty coordinator Mark Sage.

The two-hour sessions will explain what is happening, who will be affected, and what help is available.

If your service supports any working age people on low incomes, either in work or out of work, your customers could be affected by Universal Credit, and might be worried about what it means for them.

Please pass this information to any staff in your teams it would be relevant to, and encourage them to come to a briefing to gain an understanding of what questions your customers might have and where they can find answers.

Times for the briefings are:

·         Wednesday 8 August, 10am at JobcentrePlus Cosham  - book a free place

·         Tuesday 14 August, 10am at Civic Offices - book a free place

·         Tuesday 14 August, 2pm at Civic Offices - book a free place
